What better way to welcome spring than by helping to clean up the town we all live in! Here in Rockland we have a Spring Clean-up Day every year in April. The Clean-up Day 2014 will be April 20th.
It will start with a town clean-up at 80'clock in the morning, and a tree planting activity at the Rockland Park is to follow in the afternoon. One thousand young trees are sure to make the park greener and prettier.
We will divide the people coming to help into eight teams for eight different areas. As usual, we will provide gloves, rubbish bags and other cleaning tools. You will also get free lunches and T-shirts when the clean-up ends at noon. We are going to have a friendly competition to see which team can pick up the most rubbish.
Bring your kids with you. It is a great chance to teach them to care for the environment around us. We have free drinks and chocolate candies for the children at the park.
Meeting: At the gate of Rockland Park, the town hall at 330 Jones Street, or the corner of Palace Street and North Street.
Sign-up (报名): Call 5862397 on weekdays, or visit our website below any time you like.

If your pen broke at school today, what would you do? You would go to a shop and buy a new one. What if you cou ld simply print out a real, working pen with your 3-D printer without leaving your room?
Ten years ago people could only see 3-D printing in science fiction movies. But now 3-D printing is here and it’s bringing big changes.
Unlike normal printing that can only copy a 2-D picture with ink. 3-D printing can build almost anything made from material. The printer layers (分层) the material in different shapes to create the object you want to be copied.
The 3-D printer has been used to make many different things. People have made cups cars and even an airplane with it.
Doctors have been using 3-D printers for several years. People’s nervous systems have been printed out in 3-D form medical research. Some body parts have been printed and used in hospital.Several months ago, doctors used a 3-D printer to rebuild the face of a person who had a bad accident. In the future, it is expected that the printer will make human organs to save more lives.
However there are drawbacks to the printer. At the moment, printing can be quite slow and it’s still rather expensive. The average (平均的) price of a household printer is around $1, 700, not including the cost of the materials.
But as the technology develops, it shouldn’t be long before disadvantages are improved. Only time will tell where this new technology will take us.
Do you know that in some parts of the world, people build temporary(暂时的)hotels made of snow and blocks(大块)of ice? These are known as ice hotels.
Unlike usual hotels, all the rooms in the ice hotels are made of ice. In some ice hotels, even the glasses for drinks are made of ice blocks. So they only serve cold drinks. Also, hot food is not served in the ice hotels, but guests can eat hot food at places nearby.
To keep warm, guests sleep in comfortable sleeping bags on ice blocks that are covered by mattresses(床垫)and reindeer skins(驯鹿皮).
There are some places in the ice hotels that are heated, such as the bathrooms. This is because, even though it is not as cold in the ice hotels as it is outdoors(在户外), indoor temperatures are still very low.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about the ice hotels is that they are rebuilt every year. They can be used only during the winter months. The ice hotels melt(融化)away when spring arrives. The ice blocks used to build these hotels are from nearby rivers. So, when the ice hotels melt away, they melt back into the rivers.
Every year, more than nine million people all over the world come to visit London. They go to the museums and theatres; they look at interesting old buildings or have a drink in a park.
A quick and easy way to get to different places in the city is to take an underground train. The London underground is one of the best and most widely used transport networks(网状组织)in the world. The trains run all day and most of the night. (3) You'd better not take the underground between eight o'clock and ten o'clock in the morning, or four o'clock and six o'clock in the afternoon. (4) The trains are so crowded that you can hardly move or find a place to sit.
London's famous red buses form a big part of getting around in London. Although the London underground is the fastest and the simplest way of getting around London, the buses play their part and are an experience you should try at least once. By sitting on the top deck (层) of the bus, you can get a great sightseeing (观光的) experience of London as well.
Some special visitors' buses take you to many of the interesting places in the city on one journey. It takes about one and a half hours, but you can cancel your journey and get off (and on again) at the different places you want to visit.
London taxis are called "black cabs”. Most of them are black, but some are not. You can stop one if it has a "For Hire (供租用的)n sign on it. The drivers are friendly and helpful.
In a word, London is a big and beautiful city with Lots to see and to do. Welcome to London.
